Types of Funerals

We believe that a funeral should truly reflect the life that was lived. Whether you are looking for a traditional funeral, a celebration of life, or a simple cremation without a service…

We can guide you through the options to arrange a meaningful funeral to suit your budget. We have listed below the types of funerals that can be considered. For options and prices please visit our Costs page.

Attended Cremation

The most common sort of funeral is the attended cremation. For residents of Anglesey and Gwynedd these are generally held at either Bangor or Colwyn Bay Crematorium. You can however, hold a service at a different venue such as a village hall or at home and still opt for a cremation, there is no obligation to use the crematorium chapel. We can also hold small services here at our space in Bangor.

The total cost of a simple cremation starts from £3,775 which includes our arrangement fee for an attended funeral plus a cremation fee (Gwynedd resident), celebrant fee, a coffin and the hire of a black hearse.

Attended Burial

If you wish your loved one to be buried Gwynedd council looks after a number of cemeteries. For locations visit the Gwynedd council website:

There are also several community cemeteries across North Wales, these are typically looked after by the town council or clerk. Not all cemeteries have available burial spaces but we can help you to locate a cemetery which feels right for your loved one.

The total cost of a simple burial starts from £4603 which includes our arrangement fee for an attended funeral plus a burial fee (Gwynedd resident), celebrant fee, a veneer coffin and the hire of a black hearse.

Funerals in Church

Whether you have chosen a cremation or burial for your loved one, you can still choose to hold their service in a church. Many church graveyards are unable to facilitate further burials other than those in family plots, but we can make all the necessary enquiries for you should you wish to bury your loved one in consecrated ground.

Neither you or your loved one needs to have attended church regularly to have a religious service, but we will of course liaise with your parish if you are part of a congregation or find a church that feels most suitable.

Natural or Woodland Burial

For those who love nature a natural burial is the perfect choice. Natural burials are carried out in harmony with nature; everything that’s buried must be biodegradable and no chemicals are used in the wood. Natural native plants such as wild flowers or a tree may be planted in the burial plot. The nearest natural burial ground is Boduan near Pwllheli, run by The Eternal Forest Trust charity. Manon and Louise are both trustees of The Eternal Forest Trust and help with the management of the forest and arranging of all burials that take place there.

A natural burial at Boduan could cost from £3375 which includes our arrangement fee for an attended funeral plus the burial fee, celebrant fee, a jute coffin and the hire of a black hearse.

Unattended (Direct) Cremation

An unattended or direct cremation is a no-fuss option for people who do not want to have a traditional funeral service. The only difference to a typical funeral is that a direct cremation is unattended meaning that no family or friends will be present with the coffin, only the funeral director. At Enfys we only ever use Bangor or Colwyn Bay Crematorium for our unattended cremations and the cost is set at £1375.
